System design

Storyboard

The design of the house's electrical system was carried out with the help of software from RED CAD Solutions AG, in memory of our son Stefan Gerber, who participated in its development, and with the support of its manager, Sabine Bamberger, who provided us with the necessary license.

Electric light installation

The main light source consists of a large number of spotlights located in the respective ceilings. Their distribution is shown in the following plan:

The groups (numbered in Roman numerals I to III) define spotlights that are simultaneously activated by a switch (see switch plan). Additionally, an asterisk indicates whether the spotlight is located in the zone's own ceiling or the kitchen section ceiling, as there are two ceilings in the gallery area (living/dining room ceiling and kitchen ceiling).

Switches for the light network

Definition

The switches are defined based on:

• The groups of spotlights that need to be illuminated simultaneously
• The access points that require the ability to activate these groups

Thus, the following switches and their corresponding locations are defined:

There are simple switches that turn on a single light at a time. Additionally, there are three-way and four-way switches that allow you to turn the group of spotlights on or off from two or three different locations.

The parentheses in the four-way switches associated with the groups indicate that there are three of these switches (one for each group).

Plug installation

The outlets are defined based on:

• Equipment to be operated from that location
• Common uses of mobile equipment

Thus, the following outlets and their corresponding locations are defined:

Colors indicate whether the outlets are in low positions (5 to 20 cm from the floor) or high positions (85 to 120 cm), depending on the situation (presence of furniture) or practicality for use.

Additionally, the equipment is listed with its electrical properties, which are described separately for the calculation of the corresponding circuits.

In the case of the kitchen, outlets are required for the following items:

Name Connectors
Stove 1

Installation of heat accumulators

Given the difficulty in obtaining help to maintain or repair systems like water heaters and heat pumps, it was decided to use simple heating and hot water equipment based on electricity. Therefore, the heating system is based on refractory bricks and takes advantage of low electricity rates by accumulating heat during off-peak times.

The six heaters are located as follows: three in the central module and three in the lateral modules, requiring the following connections:
