Wall progress control

Storyboard

In the case of water damage, the correction process is longer because removing moisture is not a quick process. Additionally, it is a problem that is often not visible, so it must be monitored with regular measurements.

Humidity control in walls

Description

>Top

After two weeks of drying, thanks to increased temperature and wind, the walls have largely been reduced to below the acceptable maximum (14% moisture for softwood). This means that the risk of damage has been significantly reduced, although the ideal is for the panels to eventually reach a moisture level below 6%, as they were originally when installed.

The studied walls, which originally had moisture levels between 25% and 35%, are indicated below:

Summary

Overall, the moisture levels are close to the maximum allowed 14% for softwoods. Therefore, it is crucial to continue the drying process before applying any treatments that could seal the system with moisture trapped inside.

The results are presented by wall groups:

• Second bedroom, walls s25 (1) and s24 (2) (east side):

• Walls s23 (3) and s44 (4) (west side):

• Bathroom of the bedrooms, west walls s21 (3) and s44 (5):

• Walls of the master bedroom closet s42 (7) and s40 (8):

• East walls of the master bedroom s27 (9) and s28 (10):

• Stairway wall s41 (11) and entrance s42 (13):

• Kitchen wall s19 (12) and utility room wall s16 (14):

Summary

In recent days, a heating system was used to dry the attic, which poses the problem that there is no way to remove the humid air. This has led to a process where the moisture is merely redistributed without resolving the issue, as seen in certain areas of the walls where the humidity has increased instead of decreasing. In enclosed spaces, it is important to use dehumidifiers and NOT heaters, which do not remove the water but only redistribute it.
